Olivia Coleman racconta la sua esperienza sul set con David:

    CITAZIONE
Olivia Colman has spoken fondly of working with co-star David Tennant on the hit ITV drama series Broadchurch. She and David play feuding police detectives in the series: she stars as the generous, warm-hearted and emotional DS Ellie Miller, while David plays her boss, the rude and detached DI Alec Hardy. However, she tells the Sunday People that in spite of their onscreen friction, they struck up a great friendship off set.

She said, “We all got on so well and enjoyed going to work even though it was a miserable subject matter. We all adored each other. David Tennant is gorgeous. He is so jolly and happy and witty.”

She also said that they used to laugh about him playing the miserable Hardy who was quite a contrast to the real David.
“It was a big delight. We had a giggle being mean to each other. He is so warm and charming and having to play someone who is so socially inept was hilarious.
“We would all go to the pub and out for dinner. It was like a big family.”

Olivia has enjoyed some sensational roles recently, including performances in Twenty Twelve, Tyrannosaur and The Iron Lady. She claims her success in landing good parts in films and on TV is because she does not mind snubbing glamour to look just ordinary.

She said: “I feel fortunate that I'm not a beauty. I'm not a classic beauty. I feel it is harder for girls who are like that. There are fewer parts. For some reason people imagine that dramatic things happen to people who don’t look beautiful.
“ I'm not a pin-up, thankfully. I'm not suggesting I feel unconfident. I am beautiful to my husband. I am beautiful to my friends. I feel sexy and all those things with the people I love.”

Una nuova intervista ad uno dei principali attori della miniserie:

    CITAZIONE
Nine million viewers a week have been following the investigation into the murderer of young Danny Latimer in the ITV hit drama Broadchurch and trying to work out the identity of his killer. Up until now most of the cast have kept quiet about the outcome of the case, but one principal cast member has opened up to rule themselves out of the running.

In a recent interview the actor tells how they were so worried that their character might be the murderer that they eventually persuaded writer Chris Chibnall to confirm their innocence:
"I didn't even know if anyone knew. I just kept going up to him and saying 'It better not be me!' and he said 'It's OK, it's not you.' That was all I needed to know. So it's definitely not me."

The actor also talked about the experience of working on the drama,

"It was a brilliant job because you don't often get a job for four-and-a-half months…it was quite a huge challenge, because the story only spans a few weeks, so that grief and trauma is present the whole time. But it's pretend for us so we're very lucky we got to go home at the end of the day," and added, "I think it's just a credit to the directors but particularly to Chris Chibnall because his writing is so wonderful. All the hard work's done when you're given such an extraordinary character and dialogue."

    CITAZIONE
Now Magazine have been catching up with Broadchurch and have nothing but the highest commendations for the drama and its actors. The series, which boasts David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Arthur Darvill among a star-studded cast, follows the effects of a brutal murder on a small seaside community. They say:
"If you've not got stuck into ITV's newest, most spine-chilling crime drama of the year, then do it. Do it now!"

They praise Olivia Colman as awesome as Ellie Miller an suggest that Will Mellor need never be associated with Two Pints Of Lager ever again after his great performance as apparent psychic Steve Connolly.

However they believe that best of all is David Tennant as antisocial police officer DI Alec Hardy:

"No more Doctor Who for him. He's doing an incredible job at playing a haunted, pill-popping, workaholic detective, with his own dark secrets to hide."

There's still time left for UK viewers to catch up with all four episodes of Broadchurch via ITV Player

    CITAZIONE
David Tennant and Olivia Colman appeared in a brief pre-recorded interview clip on this morning’s ITV Daybreak. Richard Arnold talked to the pair about their drama series Broadchurch and in particular about the demons within the various characters that inhabit the small coastal town, including the troubles that plague their own characters DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller.

David said of Alec Hardy and the detective’s own secrets:

“I’m coming into this slightly at one remove, looking at the grief and the trauma, but of course the very fact that I’m this high flying city cop who’s been shunted down to the Dorset coast …there’s something going on there as well of course”

Recension per il quinto e penultimo episodio:

    CITAZIONE
Episode 5 of Broadchurch opened as the town looked back, with Tom Miller (Adam Wilson), Danny’s best friend, leading a reconstruction of the night of the crime. Under the gaze of the national media the tide was turning, against the police and against former friends and trusted neighbours; in the absence of a real suspect the townspeople were starting the come to their own conclusions, assisted by the machinations of the press. While Alec Hardy (David Tennant) urged Mark Latimer (Andrew Buchan) to keep calm, accused newsagent and Sea Brigade co-ordinator Jack Marshall (David Bradley) was seen praying in his doorway. Was it for the dead boy? The spiritual welfare of the town? Or perhaps for himself. His earnest recital of The Lord’s Prayer added a poignant level of precognition to the closing scene of the episode – for one member of the cast this was not going to end well.

The relationship between Beth and Mark Latimer continued to crumble in front of our eyes. Last week Beth (Jodie Whittaker) threw Mark the psychological nailbomb of her knowledge about his affair with Becca (Simone McAullay). Now they were looking back too, over the last fifteen years of marriage and what that time had meant to each of them. Mark felt trapped, he said, all those years of the same thing, but Beth felt she had given her all to her family. She confronted Becca later, perhaps the only other person in the town now upon whom she could vent her rage, aside from Mark. Concerned vicar Paul (Arthur Darvill) urged her to seek counselling, but Beth was not yet ready to relinquish her anger. “It’s all I’ve got left” she explained before haranguing him over why his God should take her son. Paul offered the standard phrases that the Church routinely offers in the face of tragedy but immediately realised that they sounded like mere platitudes to the ears of a woman who had lost all meaning to her life. Yet more Latimer secrets were out – Dean (Jacob Anderson), the secret boyfriend of Chloe (Charlotte Beaumont) was back and discovered by Mark, leading to a furious showdown between father and daughter and the revelation of her own disgust at his behaviour.

The town wanted answers, and Karen (Vicky McClure) and Olly (Jonathan Bailey) provided them and more. After an evening of flirting and career building they sent off Olly’s first piece for a national before, inevitably, tumbling into bed together, only to rise the following morning to find to their horror that their piece had been rewritten essentially as a condemnation of Jack. The flimsy evidence was enough to jog the memories of the more self-righteous members of the population: Nige Carter (Joe Sims) for instance, and Dean, stoking the fires of suspicion and calling on all around them to do the right thing and rid the town of this undesirable character in their midst. It was the mob mentality at its worst, and the press and the residents went round and around, mindlessly stirring one another up until their victim was pushed to the very edge. No matter that he was the gentle man who had sold them sweets and ice cream through their childhoods and taught them to sail and tie knots and be safe in the water. Now he was an undesirable of the worst sort, labelled, accused, convicted overnight and he needed removing. Although Jack explained to Hardy and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) the circumstances of his earlier arrest, it was neither quite enough, in Hardy’s eyes, to let Jack entirely off the hook nor to protect him. The consequences of those decisions may yet come back to haunt Hardy.

For all his shouting and posturing, Nige can hardly claim to be a picture of innocence himself. There are still questions hanging over the nature of his relationship with the increasingly loathsome Susan (Pauline Quirke). Nige offered Susan money this week, trying to buy himself out of an earlier situation, but she was having none of it, despite his not very veiled threats about the crossbow still rattling around in the back of his van. And slimy Susan herself was up to no good in the arcade, apparently using her dog to lure young Tom over to her caravan. In spite of her possible change of identity, the blackmail and now what could be an attempt at grooming, Susan has passed so far under the police radar – a proper investigation will no doubt provide the answer to many questions.

The police investigation proceeded slowly. Hardy reviewed his list of key suspects, including Jack, Mark and Reverend Paul. Ellie questioned whether the recovered phone was actually Danny’s as it certainly didn’t match the model that she thought he’d owned. Someone had apparently stood over Danny’s body for some time, smoking cigarettes – for what purpose? The burned boat, it turned out, belonged to Olly, stolen from the shore where it had been chained up. At least Olly claimed it had been stolen; he seemed less worried about the boat and more concerned that there was a good story in it. He is an opportunist, it seems, just like his debtor mother, Ellie’s sister Lucy (Tanya Franks), who rolled up on the Millers’ doorstep offering to exchange information for cash. In lighter moments, Ellie was propositioned by SOCO Brian (Peter de Jersey), and almost drew a bemused Hardy into some office gossip over the incident. “Durrty Brian!” he declared, although his own thoughts were turning to matters more personal. Even the closed off Hardy craves a little affection at times. However his proposition of the flirty Becca was as humiliating and awkward as all of Hardy’s other attempts to engage with other human beings. Hardy’s rawest moment was when Ellie finally broached the subject of Sandbrook with him. Mistakes had been made, he confessed, but he was anxious that this case was not going to be the same.

Other characters aired their own concerns. Becca has her own unhappy past and money worries, and confided in the vicar. “We all have our foibles,” Paul responded, weightily. Tom Miller questioned his dad Joe (Matthew Gravelle) on the investigation. What did mum think? What will they find on the phone? How long will the culprit go to prison? Does the boy have a guilty conscience, or is he protecting someone?

As the frustration in the town erupted in a tense showdown a gang of enraged parents confronted an increasingly victimised Jack. And this was the point that Mark Latimer discovered that, far from being his enemy, he and Jack Marshall had everything in common: two fathers who had lost sons and with that everything that makes for a decent life. “No parent should outlive their child” Jack told Mark, before Mark drove away the persecutors but unhappily not the accusations.

The episode ended on another slow walk, this time along the beach as Hardy and Miller approached another scene of trauma. Many of the residents of the town had been forced to look backwards this week, to open old wounds and confront the demons of their past. It can only be hoped that at least one had found some peace at last.

Broadchurch sarà presentato al mercato internazionale della TV a Cannes la prossima settimana (incrociamo le dita e speriamo che qualche tv italiana sia interessata):

    CITAZIONE
Shine International will be presenting the eight part drama series Broadchurch onto the international TV market at MIPTV in Cannes next week. The murder mystery series starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman is a major focus for Shine's sales remit this year, says company CEO Nadine Nohr. MIPTV, now in its 50th year is a major tradeshow gathering major figures from all over the TV ecosystem, allowing international broadcasters to discover and acquire new content for all platforms.

“Shine International’s programming captures the hearts and imaginations of millions of viewers, everyday, in over 200 territories,” Nadine Nohr says. “At MIPTV we will be launching our largest catalogue of new and returning commissions to date—network commissions and high-profile productions from an array of TV’s most-trusted and exciting program-makers.”

In January it was announced that Broadchurch has already been snapped up by BBC America for broadcast later this year. The presentation at MIPTV increases the likelihood that it will increase its international reach to other countries.

A second drama starring David Tennant, BBC thriller The Escape Artist will also be presented at MIPTV as part of the Red Arrow International catalogue. The Escape Artist is expected to première in the UK this autumn.

Furthermore Spies Of Warsaw starring David Tennant and Janet Montgomery will be examined as one of a number of Co-Production Case Studies as part of the Conferences and Events programme. The presentation will be fronted by representatives from BBC Worldwide and Fresh Pictures, and Poland's TVP and Apple Film production.

MIPTV takes place in Cannes from the 8th to 11th April.

L'attrice Vicky McClure ha parlato di Broadchurch in una reente intervista:

    CITAZIONE
Vicky McClure, who plays sly journalist Karen White in the gripping ITV drama series Broadchurch says that viewers will be in for a big shock when the identity of the killer is finally revealed. Audiences have been trying to guess who killed young Danny Latimer over the last five weeks, and writer Chris Chibnall has given them a wide cast of credible suspects from which to choose.

Vicky told the Sunday People: “Every day I get asked who the killer is – but I’m never going to say. We didn’t know until the end of the shoot. We filmed it not knowing, which was great because it added to the tension on set. When we did find out it was a big surprise. I think people are going to be shocked when it is revealed.”

The drama has even led to betting agents Ladbrookes opening a book on the likely killer. At the time of writing, DS Miller's husband Joe is evens favourite to be the murderer, while David Tennant's character DI Alec Hardy has crept up from an unfavoured 50/1 to odds of 8/1. Vicky herself, as Karen White, is given odds of 14/1.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman star in the eight part series as the two mismatched police detectives who are trying to solve the boy's murder in a small community that is being pulled apart by the impact of the event. The series continues on Monday 8th April at 9pm on ITV

    Intervista all'attore Joe Sims:

    CITAZIONE
Luke Knowles from the Custard TV has had a chat with the always entertaining Joe Sims on Tuesday. Joe plays “crossbow-toting crazy man” Nige Carter in the ITV crime drama series Broadchurch, which also stars David Tennant, Olivia Colman and Pauline Quirke.

The interview was recorded just a day after Nige was last seen levelling his crossbow at the chocolate labrador owned by current chief suspect Susan Wright (Pauline Quirke). Joe was amazed that people were more traumatised by the dog then any of the other horrible things that had happened in the drama so far, joking that he was worried to go out and get milk in case he got lynched in the street. He assured listeners that no animals were harmed: “It’s salacious gossip. Nothing has been proved.”

Joe was asked about how not knowing who the culprit was affected their performances while filming the drama. “I thought it was fantastic,” he said, “It gave us a lot of creative license to take it in directions that we wanted to and I think that ultimately for a whodunit every character is played so much more honestly. For example, the wonderful David Tennant didn’t want to know because when he’s interrogating people, when he’s piecing things together you can actually see that he’s really, really doing it, and I think that leads to such a multi-layered and structured performance.”

The cast were given the bare bones of their characters and knew vaguely in which direction the story would go. Occasionally the directors would call a member of the cast out just before filming a scene to give them a few extra pointers on what was coming up for their character to help them to play the scene. Otherwise they just put their trust in the show’s creators. Joe said:

“The first scripts were just mesmerising – when you read something that good it’s very easy to put your faith in people who are absolutely at the top of their game. Plus looking at that fantastic cast, you knew it was going to be the cheapest drama school ever – just watch and learn.

“What Chris has come up with is nothing short of an exceptional piece of writing and I’m very proud and privileged to have been involved.”

As a member of the BBC’s Radio Drama Company, this wasn’t the first time that Joe had worked with David. He was among the cast of last year’s Radio 3 production of Romeo and Juliet. “I’ve had the privilege of working with David Tennant before,” he said, “He’s very, very friendly, a very inclusive man and was very keen to get me involved and introduce me to people, which lightens your load because when you’re working with heavyweights in terms of writing and direction and performance then it was very daunting for me. But David was kind enough to put me immediately at ease, as did the rest of the cast and crew.”

Joe also revealed one of his most memorable incidents from the set, which made it onto the bloopers reel watched by the cast and crew at the wrap party: “It’s where David is having his dream and urging us to get out of the water, so me, Will, Andy and Arthur are stood there. We were meant to be actually in the water but the waves were so strong at the time that we were told just to have it licking at our feet. Anyway, this massive wave came in from nowhere and absolutely covered us. So promptly I went shrieking like a banshee up the beach, waving my hands and screaming up the beach because I’d been covered in water only to find that the other three were real men and they just stood stock still and laughed at me. Unfortunately the director had to cut because it could have been a really good shot but I was less than an alpha male that day and they’ve never let me live it down!”

Broadchurch regularly enjoys 7million viewers weekly. Joe puts this down to the way that it has tapped into the public imagination. Everybody knows a Nige, a Mark, an Olly, and it makes it very easy for audiences to relate to their own communities, while the slow and steady pace allows people to really get to know the characters and invest in them. The infighting and finger pointing within the small community feels very real. However, Joe couldn’t be tempted to give away any hints about what is coming up in the final two episodes of Broadchurch.

“At this stage, what you’ve seen now, at the time we didn’t necessarily know exactly in what direction it was going and I think a lot of the fun is in the finding out. To get to this stage and to see some fantastically layered and structured performances it would seem like a shame to give anything away and I’m loath to do that,” he explained, and added that even knowing what is going to happen wouldn’t take away from enjoying the finale, “I’ve been involved the whole way through and I do know what’s going to happen but that hasn’t in any way hampered my enjoyment of it. I remember Chris telling us from the start that the clues are all in there, and we were racking our brains, going through the script in minute detail to see if there was anything that gave us a little bit of a clue. Buy the DVD, because there’s so much in there that when you look back you’ll be kicking yourself!

“It was a fantastic group of people that were assembled. It’s humbling to see the public response, I’m absolutely thrilled that people are enjoying it and there’s so much more fun, excitement, twists and turns in the last two episodes I couldn’t possible dream of telling you where to begin.”

    Review
By Alison Graham of the Radio Times

After last week’s bolt from the blue, empathetic detective Ellie Miller is feeling more isolated than ever as the hunt for Danny Latimer’s killer moves into its penultimate week.

We all probably have our theories by now on who did it and why. But that’s been one of the many great things about writer and creator Chris Chibnall’s enthralling crime drama – it keeps on wrongfooting even the most sure of us at every turn, flinging out clues (or are they clues?) and taking us down what look like dramatic cul-de-sacs.

For Ellie (Olivia Colman) it’s become more crucial than ever to work out what happened in the cliff-top hut, the likely scene of Danny’s death. Which, if any, members of the local community in that sunny town know more than they’re letting on? What of sinister Susan Wright (a chilling Pauline Quirke) and Mark Latimer’s crossbow-loving workmate Nige Carter (Joe Sims)? The tension is unbearable.

The Mirror have selected episode 7 of Broadchurch as their must-see TV for today. They say:

Broadchurch mystery to keep viewers guessing right to the end

    ITV, 9pm

In the penultimate episode, Ellie has to work out what happened last week at the clifftop hut.

Was Danny Latimer’s killer there for the taking, or was something else going on?

There are also plenty of questions to be answered about Susan Wright (played with maximum creepiness by Pauline Quirke).

Why has she been so obstructive to police and exactly how is she connected to Nige Carter, the cheery plumber who just so happens to keep a crossbow in the back of his van?

Then there’s the psychic, Steve (Will Mellor).

His insights into Danny’s death have always been one step ahead of the police.

But is he really getting messages from the other side – or is the explanation far more sinister and simple than that?
Or could the truth behind Danny’s death lie closer to home? There’s still the massive question of the texts that Ellie’s son Tom deleted from his phone and his computer’s hard drive that Ellie has yet to find out about.
And, crucially for Ellie, what does she really know about her new boss DI Alec Hardy and the murder case which he botched up in Sandbrook?

As the search for Danny’s killer moves into its endgame, this superbly tense thriller is going to keep police and viewers guessing right until the end.

Continuano le scommesse sul possibile assassino di "Broadchurch"

    CITAZIONE
It's the most talked about drama in recent times and fans of Broadchurch are so involved in solving the murder of 11 year old Danny Latimer that they've been placing bets on it.
The Mirror reports that Ladbrokes have made investigating police officer Ellie's husband Joe Miller prime suspect with his odds being slashed after a flurry of bets were placed on him.

The previous bookies favourite was newsagent Jack, but since he's no longer in the frame, could Joe really be the most wanted man in Broadchurch?

Series creator Chris Chibnall says previous episodes have subtle clues:
‘You can watch it multiple times and work out which are the clues and which are the red herrings. There are little box set gifts in there, if you like.’
In the run up to Monday's finale we're talking a look at our prime suspects..

Olivia Coleman in una recente intervista ha parlato di come è stato difficile recitare il suo ruolo:

    CITAZIONE
Olivia Colman has said that as a mother he found playing a detective hunting a child killer in Broadchurch very difficult to handle. Olivia who has two young children said,

“ I've always been the first in the cinema to burst into tears. Since having kids I find things much rawer.
“Making Broadchurch, I couldn't stop crying. It’s just awful, the idea that your children could go before you. I’d have a scene and they’d say, you’re not crying in this scene, and I’d think, yeah right, good luck with that.”

She very nearly passed on the drama as she doesn't like to spend too far away from her family, and filming the ITV murder mystery required her to spend weeks away in the West Country.

Part of the success of the drama, she reckons, is the difficult professional relationship between police detectives DI Alec Hardy, played by David Tennant and her own character DS Ellie Miller, who have very different ways of approaching the case. She told the Mirror,
“These big murders don’t happen in a community like this and it’s horrendous because it’s a child, the worst possible, and a child she knows. She brings a heart to the case, she’s learning in order to get the right outcome. She thinks: ‘I know them, they wouldn't do it’, while Alec is like, ‘You can’t do it like that – suspect everybody’.

“He’s slightly socially inept but brilliant at his job," she added "It’s not like they shout at each other – it’s polite in a British way – but there’s bit of face pulling behind his back. They’re not great chums – this isn't Cagney and Lacey.”

Fortunately, she stressed that in real life David Tennant was nothing like his rude and distant character.

“He’s the sweetest man in the world, a joy to work with,” she said

The Guardian ricorda l'ultimo appuntamento con Broadchurch per questa sera su ITV:

    CITAZIONE
The Guardian has selected tonight's episode of Broadchurch as one of it's TV Highlights.
    They say:
After eight episodes, Broadchurch reaches its finale and we at last get to find out whodunnit. Whatever, it'll have to be a cack-handed denouement to make this anything less than one of the best new dramas of the year. That's down to a combination of an excellent script and some superb performances, notably a never-better Pauline Quirke as spooky Susan Wright.

Broadchurch concludes tonight at 9pm on ITV
